Is it really worth changing out the carb?

Have a '70 CJ5 with the factory stock 225 with the factory carb. Read an article about how great the Ford 2100 two barrel carb was as a mod for the Jeep. Is it really worth changing out the stock carb for the Ford carb?

    Thanks,

I have had awesome results with the tiny 2G, it is a rpm limiter though
when I brought my jeep to Glamis dune ,I had a hard time running in the sand ,so the next time I went I though on a holley 390 and could not believe how it affected the higher rpm.

does the ford carb flow more ?

The motorcraft 2100 is a great upgrade to replace the troublesome BBD on late model CJs.
On the 225 V6, the stock Rochester 2G is a good, reliable carb, not overly sensitive to offroad angles.
There's no reason to swap it out for any other carb unless you need more high-rpm, as Steve said above.

The MC 2100 came in a few flavors. The one most commonly used on the inline sixes has a circle on the carb body with 1.08 stamped inside the circle. The ones with higher numbers have a higher flow rate and are usually too much for a stock 258.
There is also an MC 2150 carb... it's the high-altitude versionof the 2100.

Thanks guys. My first desire is mileage. More Rs would be great but not necessary. I rarely play in the sand, mostly trails & rocks. Present carb is ready for a rebuild so if I was going to make a change the time is now. Thanks again.

When the '71 CJ5 I had was young (mid-70s) and in stock form (225 V6, 28" tires), it got 19 mpg highway.

My 05 LJ gets 15 highway.

I like the 2G on my 70/225. It is a great carb. GM spent a lot of time and $ on it.

For gas mileage take a close look at your timing and timing advance.

JMO. Keep the 2G. Or go fuel injection. That would be a significant improvement.

Ive had mine on the dunes and had no problems. Had issues how the pedal linkage hooked up to the 2g limiting full travel. I'm only running 30" tires also.

Thanks everyone. My carb, while nearing rebuild time, is still giving good mileage & performance. Just wanted to spend my time & money in the most productive way.

    Thanks again,
