Anyone ever have bushings installed in a carb along the throttle shaft. I have a carter one barrel and the throttle shaft is worn. Actually the shaft looks great, but the bore is worn. Has anyone ever done bushings? what about turning the shaft down where it rides in the bore and installing small o-rings? just a thought.

I haven't had it done, but it's a standard thing for a carb shop. Some rebuilts I've looked at appear to use an oversized throttle shaft.

Which vehicle is this for? It might be easier to trade it for a rebuilt carb.

its for the truck with 226. I'm sure it would be easier to trade it out, but that might ruin my 'cheap' rep.

Like Tim said, carb shops do it all the time. They start with a new shaft and if that still is undersized, they bore and bush it. Then install a new shaft to the new bush. Usually last longer than stock. :)

OK, never heard of a 'carb shop'. I'll have to ask around.

My machine shop did mine. It's just a matter of boring the holes in the carb bigger and inserting tubing shim the right seize. They also rebuilt the carb at the same time.

Glen: Interesting, an on-line carb shop! I'm lucky here in Havasu since it is such a big Hot Rod and Boat town, there is plenty of business. We have a "Carb Shop" here, also 2 "auto-electric" shops that will rebuild anything. :)

I learned about him from the 3B page. It's nice to deal with places that specialize. ;)

If you do the rebuild yourself after the bushings are in place there is a art (and a special tool) to staking the throttle plate screws. If done incorrectly the sound of the screw in a cylinder will ruin your day. I know, the screw knocks all the carbon out of the combustion space like a bead blaster!!!

Carb shops are hard to find. Many have diversified into tune-up shops or Fuel Injection service. I know of only a couple here in Michigan.

Ask a speed shop or engine builder. They will point you in the right direction
