So I am putting the powerlock together and i noticed that in my clutch packs instead if a flat plate I have two flat and two beveled plates. The schematicfor the 44 says they should be flat. On the dana 53 they have the beveled plat and flat plate. So i am thinking it was changed at sometime to make it more aggressive. Would this beveled plate make a noise or would it be fine? I installed it the same pattern that is used for the model 53 packs. I don't have it tightened down yet. Just want to make sure before i do.

Having 2 beveled disks per differential half is acceptable but it's considered to be an aggressive clutch pack.
No that condition won't cause any noises.
Do you have a schematic showing the order of your clutch pack assembly ?

Check condition of the universal joints on the rear propellor shaft.

After closing the power lock up and torquing it i feel better about that not being the issue i really do not see how it could rattle inside, it is tight. i am going to look at the driveshaft now. The ujoints were new, but looking at them, i believe they were new years ago, but i never used the shaft. i have saw some nasty grimy looking oil in the cap. And one thing i just read yesterday and never knew about was tightening down the ubolts for the yoke too much. i know i had it cranked pretty good so i am wondering if i may have caused some binding there because of that.

As you found out, there's not much in a Power Lock that can rattle. It's time to go foreward in the drive train and check all of that out. Also check the exhaust system, body panels, something loose in the bed of the Jeep, etc.. Given the symptoms it could a harmonic sort of thing that's messing with you.
Not hearing it ourselves makes it harder to help.
