Hey all- doing the little things to get my '73 CJ5 to pass state inspection, and one of them is the windshield washer. So, I have a new reservoir and motor kit coming. But, the factory switch in the dash is seized up. So, I have found replacement switches online, but I don't know if they control the washer motor AND the wipers? Since I'm putting this new washer kit in, I don't want to half-*** the job when I can install a OEM type switch instead of adding another generic switch to the dash. So, does the OEM switch control both functions (wiper and washer)? Thanks!

Yes - you push on the knob and the washer runs. You turn the knob to run the motor.

I don't have a 73 jeep , but I don't think the washer function is with the original wiper switch . only a two speed switch . just buy a monetary push or pull type switch . what state requires a windshield washer for inspection . tim I stand corrected

I agree with Tim. Push for wash, turn for wipe.

I thought mine was siezed up (I could get the wipers to work occasionally, but not the washer). I then discovered that the knob had slid all the way down the post so that when I pushed the knob, I wasn't getting any push on the post. It also made the knob hard to turn, so I couldn't always get both speeds on my wipers. Took an allen wrench to the knob and backed it off the end of the post about 1/8" and everything works fine now.

"what state requires a windshield washer for inspection"

Some take the position that all "original equipment" must be functional.

    ie Massachusetts.

Washer is safety related, and must be functional.

Yeah, Utah requires them, mainly due to the winter driving conditions we get here in the Rockies.
