I ordered 3 new push rods for my jeep. It's an '84 CJ7 with the in-line 6 cylinder. A 258 I think. They arrived but unfortunately they were just a tad longer than the others. I got on the phone with Morris 4X4 and gave them the measurements of my rods as closely as I could get with a standard tape measure and not a micrometer or anything like that as 9-19/32". They did some checking and called me back to say they'd found a push rod that exact measurement but it was for a jeep engine that dated from '72 to '77.

So obviously whoever built my jeep put a rebuilt engine in it from a much older jeep.

I'm just curious about the differences in this year model engine versus the correct year model, which would have been '84.

Same engine? Any worse or better?

I may have some listings at home, if you can post the pushrod lengths.

Usually the rocker arm setup controls which pushrods you need. Later cylinder heads may have different pushrods from the earlier ones. But in terms of function and performance, I believe the 232 and 258 heads are all the same from 1970 on. You don't necessarily have a matching head and block, if it's a reman.

If you have the engine build date code from the block, that might tell us something. Look here http://oljeep.com/gw/76_tsm/Section1A.pdf at figure 1A-3.
