    Hello,
Looking for some info. on rock sliders for a 70' CJ5. Hoping to find sliders to protect a fiberglass tub. The only ones I have been able to find are " Nerf bars" or sliders for 76' and up. A local shop will build some nice ones for me, that flare out towards the rear wheels. Have a "nice" price too, $800.00! Does anyone have a line on some good frame mounted sliders, maybe old stock Warn rock sliders, that won't break my bank account? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure anyone makes them for our old JEEPS. Maybe a set for '72 -'75 models would fit, if they are available. If not, I would think it would be easy to shorten them in order to make them fit. Most folks fab there own, though. Ideas and info on the subject can be found here by using the search function.

$800? Should be less than $100 in materials and a couple three hours fab time. Even at $100 an hour should be $400 or less total, Don't know where your at but around here most welding shops are under $50/hour.

Check your local Jeep/4x4 forums. If they are anything like here, there are guys on there that do fab work for extra money. If you like that design, I'm sure someone can make something for you at competitive prices.

If you just need something to keep from curling over the edge of the tub, it's easy to cut some pieces of angle iron to reinforce the tub edge.

Not all "Sliders" are created equal in both design , tubing choices & strength.............some folks buy and install cheap aftermarket ones that look OK but would hardly take any kind of impact without bending or braking.......while other folks have real sliders on there vehicles with multiple attachment points to the frame that would actually hold on impact or pivoting off a rock and are strong enough that you could even jack the vehicle up..............Your needs are unknown except that you have a Fiberglass body that your looking to protect........in either case be it sheet metal or Fiberglass both will suffer damage hitting objects......................You say a shop will build some nice ones for $800 for the pair..........depending on materials used and how there attached that may very well be an OK price.
Bottom line , you get what you pay for.......For me I would rather have an overbuilt custom set than a cheap aftermarket set.

Here is some that I built for my CJ..........materials , time and labor on these would be North of $800 bucks. Just saying!

    Tarry,
what you have is what I'm thinking! The difference on the sliders I priced to have built is they taper a couple of inches out towards the rear wheels to deflect my CJ5 around and hopefully not catch the back of my Jeep. That's my theory anyway! And also have a dimpled metal cover over the outside part of the slider to use as a step. How much time and meterials do you have in yours? $800. Worth?

Went back and looked...........got about 30 hours in cutting, bending , fitting & welding a pair of these up........there heavy.........1.750 x.188 DOM / 2x3x.188 rect tubing / 1.5"X.188 SQ braces..........need to be lifted in place using a tranny jack............cost?..........depends on how much you value your time and equipment........easy $2000 in these.

    Thanks Tarry99,
my fab. Guy, is using round DOM tubing, like 1-3/4" or 1-1/2" and about 1/4" thick walled. Where I wheel in Washington, there can be lots of mud, rocks, clay, logs and stumps. Throw in snow some times and you get the picture. Still learning what to expect here in Montana. If I slip side ways into something, I want the chance to not crack my tub.
Thanks for everyone responses. You guys are great!

After calling different big name company's no one has sliders made like, or as strong as I want, that will fit. Sounds like $800. Is a fair price with all the work to build, fab, and attach the sliders to my frame rails. Thanks again for everyone's help!
