Painted my Beverly shear with Penetrol, keeps it from rusting and leaves the nice antique patina.
Will the Fluid Film work well over painted surfaces on the frame, since it will be military marine green?

My experience with fluid film is it looks like oil stains. So the OD green frame might be darker and shinier. The good part about it is that it creeps into cavities and protects seams and such that you can't see.

Yes it will add some sheen till it gathers dirt. A rinse with the hose and most of the dirt will come off.

I paint my frames with Rustoleum Professional grade paint from ACE Hardware. I blast the frames, brush on the paint and it flows out real nice and lasts. I remove old under coating with a propane torch and putty knife, it usually rolls off in sheets.

Post #85 in my build thread shows what I'm using for undercoating. Neighbor ******* used it on his years ago and has held up well. I usually paint the frames in a Rustoleum or Van Sickle Satin Black. Good hard, strong paint with the Van Sickle stuff.

I did a differential around 6 years ago on a daily driver that still looks newly painted with POR15. The preparation was quite onerous, but worth it in the end.
In the prep instructions it specifically states to take all painted finishes to bare metal, and use their metal prep cleaner once that is complete.
If you blasted it and then threw down a primer installing the POR15 over that primer, that is probably where your problem lays.

Would suggest that proper prep would greatly improve longevity for any choice of finish. Bright steel and etched is an easy target for good adhesion. POR-15 is clearly a moisture cured urethane, available from many sources. I keep Aluthane on hand, and use it for lots of projects. Aluthane MCU anti rust ALUMINUM PAINT I will be ordering another quart to paint my steel bulkhead door.

+1. POR-15 either works very well, or it doesn't and comes off in sheets. I have had that happen and as such I refuse to use it anymore. 2k epoxy primer and top-coat of choice (2k also) is the right way to go. Period.
