Smooth as SILK

Well, lets see. Since acquiring my '82 CJ-5, I have changed the sparkplugs. I must say that the new plugs made a world of difference to the 258 engine.

I chose the autolite platinums, because of one simple reason, Wal-Mart had them in a two-pack set and I thought to buy them at the time. Well that is two reasons, but you get the picture.

It took me all of 45 minutes to change them, as well as gaping them. How simple a job for such a great improvement.

The rough idle is gone and the power is SMOOOOTH through all the gears. I really was never a big believer in changing spark plugs, but after this I figure I will keep my eye on them.

The old plugs were full of carbon build-up and from the looks of them have not been changed since dinosaurs roomed the Earth.

To show you how much REAL difference was made by the spark plug change, even my wife noticed... NOW THAT IS REAL WORLD EVIDENCE..... R)

There you have it. Proof that jeeps can be smooth enough for a wife to notice.

You sometimes forget that the little things can mean a world of difference...

 

Yeah, inline 6s are very easy to work on - lots of room under the hood, and most everything is easy to reach.

Glad your plug change made such a dramatic difference.

Reminds me of a 79 Dodge D50 my dad gave me. Poor gas mileage, no power, hard starting, bad idle. Changed the plugs and it ran like new. Never knew plugs could make such a difference.

 

Amazes Me How many People overlook this "simple Part", when THe Spark Plug is one of the most vital parts to your engine, we aint diesels here have to have that spark LOL. but once again it is so true how a (not speaking entirely literal here) a 50 cent part will get you everytime.

 

For the '79 CJ7 I had with a 258, about every 6 months you would swear it was due for a rebuild, but a new set of plugs always made it run smoother. It used to blow the guts out of the muffler about every 6 months as well.

Same as tranny fluid, just when you think the tranny needs a rebuild change the fluid, the last one I did worked as smooth as a new one.
