Gas tank skid plate.

    Have chance to pick up an 81 CJ7 gas tank skid plate, and wondering if it will fit a '74 Cj5?
    Does the collective know? Google did not.

    My Jeep included new tank-minus straps and sending unit/tank top hatch.
    Best source for this hardware?

    Sort of.

    The '74 tank bolts to the frame. The '81 tank straps to the skid plate. The '74 tank does not require a skid plate for support, but the '81 does. The later setup can be made to work on an earlier Jeep - check here for an example of using the later setup http://boyink.com/cj6/gas-tank-installing-rear/ This is not a '74, but the procedure would be mostly the same.

    Rock Auto has your parts, if it's the later style tank. Or pick your favorite Jeep specialty retailer.
