I think I've read just about every thread on ECJ backup lights, most of which are all about the switch. I'd like some help clarifying which set of backup lights I should have for my 1970 Kaiser CJ5. So far I've been able to determine that they are same as the parking / turn signal lights on front but with a single wire, white bulb and clear lens; OR...they are a completely different type that has the cone shape, which is not the same as the front parking/turn lights. It originally had them, the wiring is still there but the PO (my uncle) says he removed them since they didn't work and he felt he didn't need them in the Maine woods. I want them and I want it to be as close to original as possible.

1970 Kaiser CJ5, built in Canada during August 1969. Buick V6, 3 spd, single stick transfer case.

    A) This is the light I have on my front, with amber bulbs. Original.

Would this also be the same light to put on the rear, but with a single wire white bulb?

    B) This is the light recommended by Walck's. Bullet shaped and while similar to earlier bullet shaped front parking/turn lights, looks wrong for mine.

Of course, once I get them, the next question will be where to install them. No holes and the tub has some replacement panels.

The second one, clear lens one wire is correct. How close to the original the Walck's one is I can't say but that is the style originally used.

The light Walck's shows is the Crown Automotive replacement for the Jeep PN 945659 http://www.crownautomotive.net/mm5/..._Code=CA&Product_Code=J0945659&Category_Code= The clear beehive lens is correct.

If you Google "Jeep 945659" you will find that part lots of places. Search for your best price - a quick look suggests Morris on eBay is the cheapest.

I used these Crown parts on my CJ6, and they seem fine. They are a close match to the originals. The stud spacing may have been a little off, requireing some filing of the bolt holes. The main difference is the Jeep part would have come with a properly terminated wire - the Crown part ends in a bare wire which you will need to splice on to your existing plug and wire, or make some other kind of connection.

Ask someone that has them to post a picture and a couple of measurements to locate the center of the light.

I have Jan 1970 ECJ5 which has the clear bullet lenses very similar to the Walcks reproduction - also has the wire lock ring holding the lens in place like the Walcks.

Here are a couple photos for the back-up lights on my 1970 - both photos are of the right rear.

For lateral placement: Using the body seam on the outside of the light - it looks like the center of the bulb is just less than 3.5 inches inside (or to the left) of the seam.

For vertical placement: Using the top of the jeep body the center of the bulb is 9 inches down.

    hope that helps.
