I am currently tearing down my 59 cj5 and prepping for fresh paint, while fan is removed I was wondering if there is a way for me to measure motor rpm so I had a figure to compare while searching for a replacement 12v motor. It is probably the original fan motor and still works great but I thought if I could get a faster rpm motor it might produce better heat and defrost

You can upgrade it with a Chevy truck motor...works a LOT better.

Thanks Mcruff that's exactly what I was hoping for. nice easy and almost looks original. and the motor is even cheap too. only $16.99 for the oreilly one with air conditioning option http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/VRY0/PM105/02723.oap?year=1973&make=Chevrolet&model=Blazer&vi=5157152&ck=Search_blower+motor_5157152_3630&keyword=blower+motor uses factory original heater and improves function and is much cheaper than a replacement Mojave heater or such

Yep, thats's what I did on mine.
It made a significant improvement. The downside is that it's louder.

Likely the motor is no louder, but spin the fan faster and it makes more noise. Most of the noise comes from turbulence at the fan tips. If you can fit a larger diameter fan and run it at a slightly slower speed, it should be no noisier and will move more air.

I think this is true, but there's not much extra room in the factory heater box.

    Factory heater box? What's that?

My '60 came from the factory without a heater. On the other hand, this is Aridzona. Who needs a heater?!

I don't usually drive the willys below 40 degrees. I'll take the silverado with heated seats :)

....with the very nice half cab you have (I assume you have the doors), it would be nice and toasty in the CJ with the stock heater.

I don't drive my Jeep below 40...with the top down! ;)
I just realizrd that your Jeep is a 59...mine is a 1970. I'm not sure what the differences might be in the heaters, regarding the blower motor upgrade.
