When the headlights are on (switch all the way out) are the front parking lights and front side marker lights suppose to be off? That's how my directions showed how to wire it. I can change it by moving a wire but I was wondering if that is how it came new?

My side market lights and front parking lights are on the same circuit as the tail lights, so they are always on when the headlights are. My switch is not the original, but I hooked them like the original when I put this switch in.

Its not a renegade, but it is a 71.

On my 69 (early 70?) the front parking/turn signal lights go off when the headlights are on. Tail lights stay on. I have no side marker lights as it has the side reflectors.

Directions? Supplied with the harness, or from a manual? Would not be surprising if the light function changed year-to-year in that era. The Feds were regulating safety-related function more and more in that era.

I followed the directions from Walcks wiring harness.

On my '71 RII, the front parking lights turn off when headlights are turned on. There is a dual terminal part of the headlight switch that allows this feature.
The wiring diagram shows this feature, and my new wiring harness had provision for it as well.

I prefer to have all the lights on at night. I think it looks better.

If NOT on when headlights are turned on, then when would they be on?

light switch would have 3 positions OFF/PARK/HEADLIGHT . I am guessing some replacement switches need a jumper wire . for park and headlights

The front parking and sidemarker lights were only on when you pull the light switch halfway out.

My parking lights are on with the headlights, my Jeep is a 1970 and I'm sure all the wiring is original.

Depends on who has been messing with your wiring over the years.

Mine are set so that the front parking lights come on when the switch is half-way out, along with the taillights. When the switch is all the way out the front parking lights go off and the headlights come on. With the headlights right over the parking/turn signal lights, you can not see the parking lights from in front of the JEEP, anyway.

I know that mine all come on if the head lights come on, but got to wondering why some folks did not have the front parking lights come on so I looked in the wiring diagram in the FSM. Seems that along the way in 71 Jeep did a change. In the FSM it show early 71's with a V-6 did not have the front parking light come on with the head lights (the front and back are on different terminals) but a long the way Jeep changed that and in the current model wiring diagram with a V-6 it shows them wired up with the parking lights coming on with the head lights ( both front and back are on the same terminal)
So unless you want it wired specific to date of manufacture of your jeep, you can do it either way.:)

My 67 has parking lamps when pulled out halfway, and headlights only when all the way out. My 69 has parking lamps when halfway, and all lights on when all the way out. Wiring on both is untouched.

Right now, unless you are trying to be concorse correct with you vehicle, I would say it is a personal preference thing. I would have changed mine to be off when the headlights are on, if they were not already that way, simply because I prefer them that way.

I thought I’d put lights on my side markers and found it was already wired but not hooked up. They were disconnected behind the headlights and have rubber shrink tube with electrical tape around them both in the engine compartment and under the fender, with the side marker hole plugged with a cork stopper. I think from the factory due to they painted over the cork and the under coating on the wires. I plugged them in and put a light in the socket and they work.
What does the light socket connect to on the inside of the fender hole? The light socket and fender hole are two different sizes.
