Wondering what supplier(s) are recommended for 2g carb rebuild kits. I know of Mikes Carburetor - been watching some of his vids. If I rebuild my 225 I probably should ensure the carb is 100% as well. Looks like I have 49 jets (although one of them is so mangled I can't read the top of the jet) which is about right for 5000 ft I believe. Does it make sense to order a jet size larger and smaller for testing (for me testing will be just looking at plugs). It always seemed to run a tad fuel rich, although some of that is the extreme elevation changes from 5000' to 12,000' experienced here in Colorado (so maybe smaller jet). But at the same time, with a freshly rebuilt engine would better combustion occur and thus the richness might have been more a symptom of a tired engine?

For the cost of jets - seems like its worth having some different sizes to test (and maybe even change out for extended times at different elevations.

I used a "Hygrade" carb kit #384B. Had everything I needed, very complete.

Don't forget to remove the power valve, commonly overlooked when rebuilding. You can use a regular screw driver (carefully) to remove it.

Walker no. 15463A is the kit I have been using the last couple of times
You'll get plenty of sources if you Google that no.

I've had good luck with the Echlin kits from NAPA. Will need to buy a float separately though if you want to replace it.

Are you just removing it for cleaning or are you replacing it. I figured I would just replace it, but haven't gotten that far in researching the rebuilding process. More focused on disassembly and identifying parts and pieces.

    I removed it for cleaning.

I cleaned my carb with an ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight. It was ridiculous on how clean it was. During reassembly I watched more of Mike's videos and saw a different version that showed him removing the power valve with an ordinary screw driver. I thought I'd better double check and sure enough...There was crud trapped under it, despite on how clean I got the carb.

In the past, I have judged jet size by spark plug color. You'll need to take a trip on the highway and then pull the plugs without idling a lot.

    To all,

I recently completed a rebuild on my Rochester 2GV that is on my 6t6 CJ5 V6. I used a kit from Daytona Parts Company in Florida. The item I.D. was 341A Roch 2GV Jeep Apps. The cost was 30 dollars plus shipping. The kit is has ethanol resistant parts. I have use their kits previously and found that they work very well. The three carbs on my 6t5 goat were rebuilt ten years ago with kits from the same company and haven't had any issues or problems since the rebuild.

    For what is worth,

    Frank

Make sure when you order the kit it is specific for the number on the side of the carb. I made the mistake of ordering by year, make and model. It never ran right and I could not figure out why. I posted my issue here and the consensus was the accelerator pump. I purchased one from Mikes carbs using the number on the side of the carb and the issue was resolved.

I have no number on mine that I can find yet (at least on the passenger side of the fuel bowl beneath the fuel inlet) - it might have had a tag at some point but its no longer there. Based on the year of the jeep, it should have a stamped number, but as I have found with other parts like my distributor, it may very well be a later re-manufactured carb without much identification and thus I am not really sure what to do. Might have to call Mike directly and see if he can point me in the right direction with specific details needed for identification.

The stock 2G on my '70 did not have a stamped number, it was on a metal tag.

The stock 2G on my 6t6 V6 CJ5 has a metal tag also, nothing on the side of the carb. The tag numbers are as follows:

    7026082
    under this number is stamped
    L5

The tag is somewhat triangular and reddish in color.

Thanks guys - It does help remove any concern over some sort of aftermarket or rebuilt 2g carb.

Doug - do you have your tag number by any chance. As I think our jeeps are pretty close in production so that should work for mine. FWIW - my jeep is production of Jan 1970.

thanks guys - just got the word for the machine shop that its done with being tanked and magnaflux testing. Time to give them the go ahead to do the machining and set the valve seats and guides and begin getting parts ordered.
