I stopped off at a local parts shop to buy poly shackle busshings for the Jeep. The ones they had were Rancho and consisted of poly tubes and steel inserts. I expected and wanted the two piece style with shoulders on them. He said that that is all they have for my year. I took em cause they were cheap and have an idea for another application for them, but I still want the shoulder style bushings. Where did you guys get yours?

I have a question regarding the steel insert inside the bushing. I few months ago I tried replacing my old rubber bushing with poly ones, but could not remove the steel insert. I tried heating it, I tried cutting it, but those suckers wouldn't come out. How does one remove them?

The rubber bushings have two steel shells - one on the inside and one on the outside of the rubber. The one next to the spring eye (outer) is tough to remove. The mechanics at the Jeep dealership would use an air chisel (noisy!). Folks here have put a hacksaw blade through the spring eye, cut through the shell, and then peeled it out.

BTW if you search, this has been covered before.

I feel your pain. What a coincidence, I just went through the same thing last week on my 73 CJ5. I ordered a new Black Diamond lift kit and the bushings are the ones you described. I called the place I bought them from and they said that this is the right bushing for the older Jeeps. I also called SuperLift who I think makes Black Diamond and they also said that those are the right ones. In fact, they said not to use shouldered bushings for those springs.
Those old bushing sleeves are a pain. I did the same thing someone else suggested. I took apart my hacksaw, inserted the blade through the hole and re-assembled the hack saw with the blade upside down. Cut a groove all the way through the sleeve. Don’t worry if you go through the sleeve and ding the hanger. You can smooth that out with your Dremel or a file later. Next take a small chisel and start whacking the lip of the bushing so it peels inward. Do this all the way around the circumference of the hole. I used an ice pick chisel and then drove it right under my hacksaw cut, the entire length of the cut. I then took a socket from my tool chest that was just small enough to fit in the hole. Hold that socket with some pliers and whack the end of the socket. That should drive the insert right out. Clean up the burs on the hanger, coat the new bushing with light oil and drive the new one in using a wooden mallet or a block.

I just put the split type in my '78 and have a set for my '79. That's what I was given when I ordered them from 4 WHEEL PARTS (310 900-5500). P/N ENE 2-2105G and ENE 2-2106G. Says 76-86 on the fronts. Don't know if they will fit your application. Got them in SoCal.

Yeah, I did a search and learned how to remove them, but what I wanted was a source for the shoulder style bushings, which according to all of your collective experience do not exist. Dagnabit. I guess I will busting out the old hacksaw this weekend. BTW, the t18/s20 parts will be here by Fri.
