The previous owner of our 70 CJ5 project said the clutch wouldnt work. I noticed that the clutch fork only moves about a half an inch when the clutch pedal is in. Does this sound like enough movement or is it just wishful thinking that the cable is just out of adjustment and I dont really have to replace the clutch?? Thanks Don

You should definitely adjust the cable/linkage before you decide to replace the clutch. Cables break wire by wire and come unwound, lengthening. The lengthening makes the adjustment go away. Indeed, inspect all the external parts before you conclude you need a new clutch.

I had a broken motor mount on the drivers side. I would have problems shifting so I would adjust the clutch. Each time I adjusted the clutch I would pull the engine back and it would need adjusted again. Finally the engine hit the firewall couldn't move back anyfurther. Clutch stayed in adjustment. Drove me crazy cause I didn't know that the motor mount was bad, and I couldn't figure why the clutch would keep needing adjustment.

Timgr- is right check the adjustment and cable before going real deep into the clutch.
