Hello, new guy here. I have a 63 cj5 with am offset Dana 25 rear. Plan A was to find a Dana 44, but none local it seems and with COVID swap meets are not happening. Question is will the powertrax 2110-LR work in the rear axle? I can only find side notes and searches saying front axle. Second question: no that it matters a ton, but I have 5.38's. Do I need to remove the carrier due to ring gear size? Thank you.

So, you have a dana 25 rear axle? Do you mean Dana 44? Or do you mean front axle?

I have a dana 25 rear currently. I was looking for a 44, but gave up. Thinking about getting a locrite for my rear 25, but in all the adds I see it says front and not rear. Will the 25 locrite work in both front and rear axles?

As far as I know, 25 is only a front axle. If you can post a picture of what you have, we can probably identify it.

It would be odd to have a 25 rear end. If it really does, it's probably a 23 out of WWII Jeep or out of a DJ3 (but DJ3 axles are 4-lug).

Agree we need pictures. It's very unlikely a 25 in the rear.

Wasnt there some odd rear axles in jeepster c101s that wasn't a D44? Maybe something like that swapped in.

  9. yes, if it does fit and it is the right one for you axle (likely a 44, never heard of a 25 rear), you will need to take out the carrier. ring gear size has nothing to do with it

  10. My bet is that its a Dana 23 out of a WWII jeep. It is the same gear set as a 25. If it is a 23 your locker will work in it.

I guess it can't hurt to ask how he's identified it as being a 25?

The 23 is full-floating; would be easy to identify.

44's all that was ever in a 5. But you could have had a 41 in a CJ-2A. Junkyarding could have wound up with one of those in it, but as usual, picture worth 1000 words. I have a LockRight in the 23 in the back of my MB, and it uses same gears and parts as a 25.

Ok, so I crawled under and looked again. I just bought this jeep and was told it was a 25 rear. Looks like a 44 and the housing bottom right is stamped 44. Feelin pretty smart now....
