I scanned around the site in several of the different forums and did not find a solid answer. I am curious about the use of wiring looms (underhood, behind dash and rearward) when going down the restoration path. I am trying to determine what would be a correct stock setup. I have seen 72-75's with EVERYTHING in a loom, nothing in a loom, and even with partial loom, partial exposed. What was correct from the factory? If looms were used, what type were they? Sock style? split loom? something else? What about size(s)?

Also related to this would be, did the under hood wiring path go both across the firewall behind the engine AND forward along the left fender towards the front?

Thanks for any "enlightenment" on this.

'72-74 were taped and wrapped, like earlier cars. No fuse panel, no bulkhead fitting, just a big grommet through the firewall. Thus the engine and dash harness were one. Not sure about the rearward harness having a plug connection or not - likely shown in the TSM diagram. The rearward harness travels from the engine compartment to the rear via the inside of the frame rail. As I recall, this earlier harness goes across the firewall, up the right fender top and across to the lights. The horn goes forward across the left fender.

'75 has plastic split-loom and a combined bulkhead and fuse panel. '75 goes forward across the left inner fender and across the grille to the lights. There is a separate engine, dash and rearward harness. Engine and dash are separated by the separable bulkhead fitting. The rearward harness comes off a plug on the dash side, goes along the inside of the body and down through the back edge of the left rear wheel house.
