I like the floor-thru idea for sure.

Someone cut that clutch pedal assembly on mine to mate to the caddy tilt/telescoping column but neglected to attach it to the dash in any way, shape, or form. It’s fugly for sure.

I mounted the steering column to the dash properly, but the clutch pedal housing will need some help for sure.

I finessed the motor into place so EVERYTHING clears in the engine bay! Then, probably due to heat stroke, I tack welded the passenger’s side motor mount. No pics this time, it was a 5 hour marathon of fabrication.

    The best part about fabrication?

    When it’s over!

Oh, I mocked up one stretched fender, too. : /

I tack welded the driver’s side mount into place this AM.

4.5 hours, this time with pics. So here goes my attempt to explain my process just because:

I have spare amc motor mounts and on the FSJ Wagoneers/trucks there appears to be some differences between driver and passenger side mounts.

Who doesn’t like two choices? I opted for the four holes version in the event moving the motor forward, or backward was necessary (this actually happened when I swapped in a 440 into my 56 Fury).

I purposely left the existing motor mounts sticking out on the frame of my CJ5 so as to use existing mounts if there was any possibility of tying new to old.

I used the CAD method (Carboard Aided Design) to dial in location of cuts to trim off the existing frame horns based upon measurements of the minimal AMC rubber motor mount and bracket face (IIRC 1.25”). So the bracket that bolts to the engine block, rubber motor mount and trimmed AMC motor mount faceplate are bolted together and are are ready to mock up after frame motor mount is trimmed.

Using Soapstone to mark the line needed to be cut off, then the header comes off, sawzall out and with a few minutes, or less, of cutting, it’s trimmed.

I tack welded the AMC motor mount to the existing frame horn, then used CAD to cut the missing pieces from some TASP (Thick-azz Steel Plate).

    IMG_4945.jpeg

Then those pieces are then tack welded into place with enough time inbetween to let the welds cool so there is no warping of the metal, and no melting rubberized motor mounts.

I have a few more tack welds to do on both sides, then pull the drivetrain to fully weld all seams, to bottom, then underneath. Adding support and gussets as/if/when needed.

While welds were cooling, I cut and spliced the two fender pieces together to maintain the stretch:

    IMG_4951.jpeg

They tie and hold to two metal edges together to allow space for butt-welding the pieces together.

    IMG_4952.jpeg

Fugly, but effective. Every 1/2 or wider inbetween welds to keep the metal cool enough not to warp- take your time, don’t rush. Flap disc is used to smooth is all out when it is totally welded up.

As of this PM, this is how it looks (the engine isn’t fully supported by the motor mounts for obvious reasons, so it does not a bit higher in the front):

The fender stretch seems hardly unnoticeable. The top looks just right also(y)

Thanks, I was sweating bullets as I was chopping and getting everything tack welded into place- hoping it would be proportional.

I plan on digging back in to it this weekend.

does anyone know if the floor clutch pedal assembly is the same for the CJ5 and the Willy’s wagon and trucks?

Thank you. It seems as if I’m using an FSJ version, or making the existing assembly work for my needs.

Thank you- believe it or not, I’m trying to step away from building these beasts!

Dunno if it's so nice now. The pictures show it before the hod/fenders stretch. Possibly not completed?

I believe that is post-stretch. Looking back through the thread and reading the CL post, it certainly sounds like it's done. And it looks longer than a profile of my CJ. I have 33s on my CJ, and the front of the front tire is noticably in front of the fender. On this Jeep, it's notably behind, and these look to be 33s to me.
    I could be wrong though...
