I have looked at few different places but none of them list paint code 224 for a 65 Tux. The first one listed is 225. Also has 172 listed for the trim code. Any ideas?

My parts manual shows paint code 224 as being “White Cap”. It doesn’t show trim codes.

it doesn’t specify tux/non tux so I don’t know if this is accurate for a tux or not.

this site shows 224 for 1963

The trim code does not tell you much for a CJ. Buckets or bench, vinyl color. Do you have the seats?

I have the 60/40 bench and back seat, they are the black vinyl. I did some digging and scraping on it and id get past the 2 other layers of paint to reveal it was originally a white color for the body.

Yeah, you could conclude that 172 is black vinyl bench seat. The rear seat is an option list item and does not appear in the code. Even the passenger bucket is an option.

Your Tux is the same spec as mine when new. Paint code 224 is White Cap, a very bright shade of white. The 172 trim code is Presidential Red pleated. Most likely you had a 60/40 split bench, and the pleating was 1-1/2” wide pleats on “calf grain” vinyl (Black pleated is code 227). Your Tux most likely came new with a matching red Whitco convertible top, due to the red interior trim. Your’s also likely should have a column-shift 3 speed (4 spd cane shift was a very rare option, especially on Tuxes). Very few Tuxes still retain their original unique features.
I’d be interested in your serial number as I track the early column shift Tuxes.

Serial # is 8322 12473 and it has a floor shifter in it now but does have the cutout for the 3 on the tree.
