Hello gang, it’s time to replace the exhaust system on my ‘71 Jeepster with 225/th400. I want to get back closer to stock, single exhaust. Currently it has dual exhaust. Does anyone have experience with Waldron’s exhaust kits? The other option is just a local shop. Thanks

    Jim

I have a Waldron's set on my stock 225 CJ5 and it's been working great for 10 years. I opted for the aluminized coating. It's single exhaust.
Their muffler broke at the inlet, so I replaced it with a Walker about 7 years ago.

If you go with "just" a local shop, they will install it complete. This is a significant additional value compared to the kit.

Looking at the Waldron's site, they warn that current lead time is 10-12 weeks. Plus shipping, which will be a considerable additional expense.

I would look for a local shop that specifically installs custom exhausts, rather than your local muffler shop chain store. Have you picked a shop and asked for a quote?

Last time I had a system replaced (on my J10) the shop gave a lifetime warranty on the aluminized pipe, and 10 years on the muffler. I expect anywhere they have to weld, or where the muffler is assembled with weld, eventually it will rust and fail.

I'm lucky to know a local owner-operated shop. Custom makes anything, better than OEM and way cheaper.

OTH, I once returned to a national franchise type shop for the "lifetime" warranty on the muffler. "That's not a muffler" was their answer. Right, and the sky isn't blue. But somehow it wasn't itemized by them on the original receipt.

I have an old school local muffler shop, I used them on my ‘58 Willys truck. Haven’t gotten an estimate yet, just noodling the options. I’ll have to check my receipts and see what they charged for the Willys.

Local guy should be the better cost and time frame. Steel and labor are more affordable here than other places.

I think your looking at 1.75-2" off each bank then 2-2.25" for the muffler and tailpipe.

Thanks. Three years ago the shop charged me $230 to install an exhaust system on my Willys. I’m sure it’s gone up, but they will probably beat the alternative.
