Well, its been almost 3 years (You last visited: 09-23-2002 at 01:47 AM) since I've been on here, and since I sold my '68 CJ5. The place has certainly changed, Ill have to get another short nose so I can come over here more often... anyway.

I'm trying to locate a combination valve for a friend, and his '74 CJ5. I haven't had any luck at all the regular places, and got tired of sifting through all the crap on google. Would anyone have a line on where I might find one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The combination valve has three functions. The valve consists of a one piece housing, front brake metering valve, a pressure differentail warning valve, and a rear brake proportioning valve. It also serves as the junction block for the front brakes.

I just replaced my rear lines from the metering valve back.

Well, the proportioning valve, metering valve, and the pressure differential switch make a combination valve. So, I could have just said proportioning valve, and left it at that. ... sorry. Kinda like a stator is now a pickup coil... And a firewall is now a bulkhead.

After all, a firewall would insinuate that at some point in time, somethings going to catch on fire. Now wouldn't it...

If you're running 4-wheel drums, chances are that the proportioning valve does nothing.

Many who convert to front discs say that Summit Racing has a proportioning valve much cheaper than stock.

    I hope this helps.

    Yea I got a 74 CJ5,
and I was told that you don't need a proportioning/combination valve on 4 drums so I did away with it and simply got these brass T's from Murrays. But it sort of seems I need to put more pressure on my brakes in order to stop now. I had all the cylinders, shoes etc... replaced with a GREAT pedal but it does seem it takes too much foot pressure for the jeep to stop. Don't know if this is because of my missing proportioning valve or not. GL

Good info, but yikes - maybe they could make the font a little smaller... heh.

I was a bit leary when you talked about that. Even though the valve itself may do nothing, it's still probably a restriction point to help boost pressure. I pity you when you run a few deep puddles, you'll be pumping those drums until the cows come home to get brakes again.

Running brass on brakes is almost as bad as my "temporary" illegal copper brake like (lasted 3 years). Both materials expand under pressure. Use steel.
