Did the mid 60's Jeep's come with the option of a "factory" snow plow setup? I looked at one yesterday and I could swear the hydraulic pump said "Jeep" on it. If this is true does anyone have pics of the original plow setup and pump so I can compare?

Lots of dealer accessories were "Jeep Approved" and could be installed by the dealerships. Don't know much about plows though - not much call for them where I grew up.

Ok, thanks for the info + pics. Now that pump pictured in the first reply- Can you get parts for that, and are they fairly reliable? Second the plow I am looking at for sale has the piston going from the front bumper, frame area up to a large "hoop" which is about the same level as the front edge of the hood. The "hoop" is also attached down to the plow frame by 2 long adjustable solid arms( for raising up and down). Does anyone know what this is? I have never seen anything like it.

I have some pictures of a V6 pump set up. I'll dig them out for you. I don't know if it is the a "stock" setup. The HI-Low jeep pump pictured is a Monach unit used on the F-134. There are no parts available for these units as far as I can determine. It mounted piggy-back on the generator and had its own reservoir.
The V6's had a remote reservoir usually mounted on the firer wall. Both my pump setups use a custom made bracket. You can use a GM power steering pump and bracket. I've seen this setup but never used one. The up and down valve and the left and right power angle valve are mounted on the drivers wheel well and the control rods go through holes drilled in the firer wall and dash to the left of the steeering wheel.

Do those pumps go bad often or do they typically last a very long time? Have you ever heard of a framework setup like I described? Maybe its something homemade?

Maybe the plow frame is more like this?

    Yes Boyink,
It is similiar to yours. Except the top bar where your cylinder pushes up on is like a hoop, and instead of a chain there are two (one on each side) bars coming down to the rear framework to lift up. Also the rear framework of the plow doesn't attach just behind the bumper, it is long and attaches further back inside the frame, back along the trans somewhere. Ever seen one like that?

Disregard the actual plow - that's a one-off setup that I built to engage my towbar shackles for mounting.

Are the "two bars" that connect the lift to the plow actually cylinders? That could be a power up and down setup. Mine is power up only, the plow lowers with gravity and there's nothing "forcing" it down against the driveway other than it's own weight.

I'm not sure, I think they were just lifting bars with holes in to change height. Does yours have the engine belt driven hydraulic pump? Monarch? Do they last a long time seeing as no parts are avail?

No..I have an old Meyer T5 lift unit that has the motor, pump, and lift cylinder all together. The whole unit is there in the plow lift frame.

More pics and details of the plow setup are here.

Attached are pictures of a pump set up on A V6. Note the custom bracket. This pump has its own reservoir. Unfortunately I don't know who the manufacturer of the pump is.
