Was it common to have a stock hand throttle.

i have a knob on my dash that says throttle and is a hand throttle. i have looked at other early CJ5's and have not seen it any where else.

any one else have one? did it come with a special package?

Most my early ones had them. I've wondered if they're an option though, because I've also had them without. Probably reading through a fsm would solve that mystery though.

Both my '58 and my '61 have'em. Some one told me awhile back, that on the early models the hand throttle had 2 purposes - 1) you could set the throttle for operation of PTO driven options and 2) it was handy for going through rough roads to stop the bouncing gas peddle issue. Sounded good to me. As far as I know, the throttle has always been there with the choke but I don't know when it was changed and removed.

    ok cool.

i was at an early jeep junk yard yesterday. nothing newer than 70 and about 90-100 jeeps and i really didn't see one with a hand throttle...but i wasn't really looking all that hard. just wanted to know.

I have one on my '56, it sure is nice with a PTO. It also works good for a cold morning warmup after initial startup with the choke. :hurrican:

My '70 has the hand throttle as well and I had wondered if it was added. My cable was moused on with a hose clamp at the carb leading me to believe mine was added by the PO. Is there a particular point of attachment on the Rockchester? Mine has loosened up and become inoperatable.
Can anybody describe (or picture) where / how thier hand throttle is attached at the carbuerator? There must be a better way than the way mine is attached.

My '56 has it, which brings this up...

I need the bracket that mounts to the YF carb on an Fhead 134 that both the choke AND throttle cables clamp to. Anybody have an extra one?

I bought one from a used parts dealer over the phone, and it's the later style single clamp version, for choke only. Anybody wanna trade?

my 62 has it , I use it time to time , it cuts down on the foot work needed when going over something. I just wish it had a twist lock on it like our 2 ton farm trucks have. I might switch mine out for one like on our 2tons this winter because you lock them in position by twisting and release by hitting a button .
