I pulled this heater from a '66 Ford F-100. It mounts on the right side. It looks like I could put this in my '71 CJ-5 and leave the original heater on the left side. I could run defrost and heat at the same time! What do ya'll think, will it work? I'm working on my steering right now, but this is next on my list.

Don't know why it wouldn't. What would you do, run a heater hose through one then to the other and then back to the block?

Yep thats how I did mine. Heater looks the same too My came out of a 70 ford I think. I ran the coolant line from one to the other and put a push pull valve between the two.

The Ford heater is roughly similar to the later heaters, which fit under the center and right of the dash. Is the OEM defroster effective enough to depend on, if you add the Ford heater or a Mojave to heat the cab?

I was thinking of using the defroster on the Ford unit and just using the OEM unit for heat. Once the window is defrosted then the Ford unit can be switched to floor output too.

I find the ford defrost mode barely effective maybe its the design of the window vents(whole windshield frame hollow) or the lack of a fresh air vent. Blower works great thou to push the heat out.

I installed an early Bronco heater in my 71(identical to the above box) on the right side under the glovebox. Very simple install. Don't think you need to retain the stocker. I used the stock defrost hoses. Defrosters work well(a realitive word here) and it warms the inside of the Jeep well. I do wish I had mounted it a little farther left, as it doesn't blow on my feet while I drive, though my passenger is mighty happy.
