How much do the shocks matter? I added the pro comp 2.5" lift to speedy and am about to order shocks. Do the big name shocks really make a difference? Is Rancho or Skyjacker really better than Monroe? There is a huge difference in price and I am interested in your opinions.

    TIA

I run RS-5000's. No problem on my end, BUT I did go with the recommended longer shock due to the lift. When I change them, I will get some sort of adjustable shock i.e., RS-9000.

I ran Rancho 5000s, gave them away. They're just too stiff. Spend the bigger bux, go with the Rancho 9000s. They're adjustable, you can customize the ride comfort for the conditions. Mine are adjustable settings 1-5: I run 3 on the street, 4 with a heavy load, 1 on the trail.
I think the new ones have setting 1-9.

Dennis, I've gotten to where I just get monroe magnums or the generic local FLAPS store model made. I make sure they have the proper mounting ends and a stroke of about 11-12" to 22-24". They usually have a lifetime warranty but have never had to take any of them back. Has worked well for me for a lot of years. Usually much cheaper. fwiw

Much depends on the springs. 9000s are great if you have flexy springs, like Skyjacker Softrides or some others. But if you have STIFF springs, the 9000s won't be of much benefit.

Don't even know what the springs are.

Could just be that they're that stiff I suppose.

Pull the shocks off and take it for a low-speed ride to determine how stiff the springs are. Flex on some rocks, loading dock ramps, etc; see how it flexes, or if they're so stiff it pushes the tub instead of flexing.

Dennis, you might consider the same...

Thanks Lynn. I'll try that when I get some time. Other issues to address first.

Dennis I am running the Skyjacker Softride Hydro 7000s they seem to work fine. They let the springs flex well. I have no problems with those. Cost 32.99 @ quadratec.

Dennis two things to look for.
1st and to me the biggest, is double walls on the shock tubes.
    2nd is the valving.
I've had a few brands that were great and some others were just outright bad.
If you can swing the adjustable ones do it.
Other than those I like the Heckthorns.

I'm useing Heckethorns, which came with Rugged trail stickers.. Bottom line, a good non hydro shock that has enough travel will do you well.... IMO..
