    What kind of locker?
A lock rite or Aussie is easier than a Pow'r lock due to setting the gears. Both will force you to remove the axles or at least pull them clear of the carrier. The flanged axles are easier than the 2 piece. Figure an afternoon, about 6-8 hours if everything comes apart easy, longer if not.

What is a good locker for mild off road and best handling. I have a 71 danna 44 with the 1 piece axils.

Detroit , Lock-Rite , any automatic locker sucks on the street but nice off-road.... ARB , OX or any selectable is nice for both for mild wheeling and good handling on the road I would go limited -slip

    IMHO
just me though.. I've ran Lock-Rite and Detroit on the street and will never do it again...

running a powrlok (ltd slip[race version]). seems a better setup (and price) compared to a locker. My 4 series 30 spline was $515 from Randy's ring and pinion. the OX, ARB or E-lock would be nice but out of my league $$$ wise.

a lunchbox type locker(lockright, aussie) are easiest to install but have less road manners- More noise and feel when the locker unloads and loads while driving. I wouls suggest a Powerlock ot traclock for what you said your driving style is.

I run a full Detroit in the rear and a lockright in the front. Once you get used to the street manners of a locker it is not bad. For what you describe a lock-rite or aussie locker would be the best. Easiest to set up with out having to pull the carrier and reset up gears. With a limited slip you would most likely have to swap the carrier and that leads to big expense.

Ask yourself why you need/want a locker 1st.
I wheeled for years without one.
Now I cant seem to live with out one.
If you just want it for the cool factor, I'd skip on it.
If you want/need more on the trail then a drop in locker is the cheapest way to go.
I'd look into Aussie or the Loc Right for sure.
As far as driving on the street, I drove one with a locker for a few years as my daily driver.
Kinda fun after you get used to it.
The 1st few pops will freak you out though. :D

What I want is to take it in the sand. I have pulled out a ton of exploders and blazers off the beach. I pulled them with my zj and 90 yota truck. I think what they all had in common is open diffs on them. I want to avoid that with my cj.
