Its in a 64 cj-5 and i have replaced the points, cap, rotor, and condenser, and me and my dad have rebuilt the carb and even jetted it leaner, checked the float, and all of the other basics and it still runs like crap. crap being a real loping rough idle, stumbling until it hits around 2000 rpm or so and spewing black smoke out the pipe. I have tried new spark plugs but the same thing happens. Why wont it just settle down and run like it did a few weeks before.

Did you put on a new fuel pump? Wondering if you've got too much fuel pressure and it's flooding.....guys?

Float weight? Correct needle and seat? Not questioning your ability (I question mine regularly!) check that all parts are installed correctly as not to bind the float mechanism, or parts are the right ones. Sometimes the quality control on some of the parts made for our Jeeps are not the best.

It would start bogging down and sputtering and then it would stop(stop being the sputtering). Then a few weeks later when i started the idle was really lopy and it wouldnt even rev up smothly

I did notice when i had the cap off that the points were discolored from heat . Would this mean my condenser is bad even though it is new

So why are the points discolored on the copper part if it is a bad coil??
