'79 CJ5 304 swapped into '84 CJ5 V6

i have a 79 CJ-5 with the 304 3 speed.i want to swap it into a 84 cj5 for many reason (frame rot, body condition, etc) what will be needed for this swap or does anyone have a link if swap has been done. also, are these years interchangable.. thanks - kenny

ok people is it possible to swap the 304 amc motor into a 84 cj5 with a inline 6?? link of maybe some info?? also, are the parts from my cj5 interchangable??? just wanna know before i start swapping over

 

Ok, I'll bite. I don't know about the late CJs specifically, but in an intermediate you need to change at least one of the motor mount brakcets that are welded to the frame. The T150 3-speed was never offered in '84, so you may have to drill a few new holes for that. AFAIK the '79 and '84 are very much the same except for transmission options and track width. Should be easy - except for changing the engine mounts.

 

if you have an 84 cj5 hang onto it they stopped making them in 83. that may be why no ones got back to you.

 

That and the "V6" make it a rare beast indeed.
