    does anyone sell replacement seats
    for the 75 CJ5?
i see 4WD.com does sell the classic
low backs for anything > 76'.
will these also fit the 75?
if not, is it possible to fix the old tears
    with something?
    thanks:)

Somebody on here told me those "classic lowbacks" arent as comfortable as the originals. I have seen cover sets, I would check at Quadratec, I think I saw the covers there.

If you dont need exact originals, 80's and early 90's model Ford delivery/service vans have some good ones they are low back but still contoured, I think they look fine and are comfortable, if you have a large salvage to dig through, go for the passenger side seats, in service vans they are not as worn as the drivers seat but are the same seat and both sides have the slider in them, it requires you to drill two holes in your original frame per seat, two holes will match up but the back two need to move about a half inch, they are usually pretty generic colors, grey, black, blue, tan, I like em..........Vic

The Bestop "classic lowbacks" will not bolt up. Also there is much more to it then redrilling the holes. I have installed a set of these and it was time consuming. If you make adapter plates and bolt them on you will find that you sit at least 3 inches higher then you did with the stock seats. My head was bulging out the bikini top as I sat too high. If you use the slider on the drivers side that will add at least another 5/8 in to the height. On mine I then modifieed the mounts to lower them and bolt to the seat frame so I can still have the pass side tilt etc.(but no longer fold & tumble). They work fine now, but I am in the process of reupholstering some originals.

I've seen a few Jeeps with those Ford van seats - seem to work well.

I had high-back Bostroms in my CJ-6 and they fit with no problem, and they also sell low-backs. They may be hard to source today though.

i checked out all the suppliers
and no one had exact repro seats.
that was both amazing and sad.
there are millions of early CJ's out there,
and apparently only a few of us that
    want original seats!!

Has anyone tried the Outland Bucket Seats that are found in Essentials and 4WD hardware? I was thinking of using these to replace the worn out seats in my 75.

    hello blue75!! R)
    i have seen these advertised
    but just cannot bring myself
to like bucket seats in an old jeep.
    but i am a purist
and would like to make my jeep original.
i think what i will do
    is remove the covers
and try to repair them from underneath
with some kind of glue etc.
    has anyone tried this?

You know its probably cheaper just to totally replace the seats, but it sounds like there are a lot of fitment problems where the mounting holes don't line up properly, higher ride height, etc.

My seats were recovered back in the mid-80's, but now the vinyl is starting to show its age and the stitching is deteriorating. When I can afford it, I will probably have the seats custom reupholstered using the original frames. A local shop recommended going ahead and replacing the foam (MUCH better support and comfort) as well as recovering. That is probably the route I will take eventually.

My main issue is I want to restore to original as much as possible, and I don't have decent pictures of the original lowback vinyl seats. I would greatly appreciate someone posting pictures of the originals. Color is not that important, its the stitching and vinyl panel setup that I would like.

    Thanks !

I got the seat cover kits to redo mine on Ebay from Artistic Productions/Ron Varner. While they are not identical to the intermediate style(pleats horizontal rather than vertical) They are excellent high quality. They just arrived today and I am pleased with them.

Yeah, I could do that. It may be a little while before I get to them though. I have a Model A Ford I have to finish for someone first, Then one of my daughters wants her Scout painted and put back together. It might be a month or so.

    thanks, Iowa

seems like yours are in pretty good shape, 'cept for the side bolsters. You might take it to a good upholstery shop and see what they recommend. Could be they could remove the cover, reinforce with other material and then reinstall, thus keeping them original.

Yes, those are original. I'd look for a good upholstery shop that can re-cover them for you. Depending on the shop, they should be able to make them look and sit like new. IMO the original seat are very comfortable, and nothing fits better.

also, i'm planning to take off the
    steering wheel cover.
i've heard that it is hard to
hang on to when it's 'bare'
what are your feelings about this?
    thanks :)

JMO, but your seats look to be in great shape, I vote for having them recovered locally. You'll never find another set like them. And why take the cover off the steering wheel? It looks like it's in good shape too, might as well enjoy it until it falls apart. Should give you a better grip and be warmer too.
