Seems when i fill up, it runs over a bit, but not at the nozzle its more towards the middle or opposite side. Maybe where the hole for the sending unit goes? Anybody else had this trouble? Im considering dropping my tank, is this the best route? What kind of headache is it getting these off? It will be my first time with removing a gas tank.

Also..what is it about 76 that seems different, when i looked at ordering hoses to replace mine they all seemed diff for 76. May have just been the vendor though.

Mine was doing the same thing. I think it was leaking out of the unplugged spout at the top of the sending unit. I plugged it without dropping the tank, but if I fill it up, the gas still comes out. I am not exactly sure what is going on, but sooner or later I will drop the tank to put in a new sending unit so my guage will work and I will find out then. Until then, I am only put 10 gallons at a time in.

seems 1976 was the last year for the large diameter 2 1/2" (?) filler hose.
after that year they changed to the smaller 1" diam hose for unleaded fuel if I recall.
Your vent hose also attaches to the filler hose through a special metal nipple or adapter, don't lose it or toss it out, it's no longer available.
of course, this is assuming a PO hasn't already tinkered/ditched the factory set up.
the Jeep # your looking for is: J5354760 for your year CJ.
if you can't find one, then universal reinforced flex fuel hose is the next step, try a marine/boat yard for the stuff, it's pricey...
maybe another member here has experience with finding a hose to work..

Re the rubber fill hose, the usual approach for J-trucks and Wagons is to make a steel pipe for the bend, and then join it to the tank and filler end with short sections of the straight fuel hose. A muffler shop can make the tube for you from exhaust pipe.
