I have a D.U.I., Davis Unified Ignition, in mine. It is the ignition and distributer all in one. Just drop it in and hook up a few wires.
My ignition module kept overheating and my jeep would act like it was out of gas. I started carrying around an extra module and I would switch it out when it overheated and died. What a pain! The D.U.I. solved that problem. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it.

I talked to their tech guys and they now do work with their lifts. They had to redesign them to work with the military wrapped springs. I'm talking about the shackles now. I ordered a pair, have them now and they look tough. Much heavier duty than what is on there now. I have not installed them yet. I think I'm going to wait until I get my 2.5 inch lift which should be soon.

Tim: Will definately hold onto the BH and stuff.....was thinking about a future 4-speed conversion, but with these pieces it makes the swap a little easier!

72 JG: Thanx for the info....haven't seen the DUI setup, but will add that to my search. The point system is probably good, but i have been known to fubar points :(

High "5": AWESOME!! thanx for doing the footwork! Are the newer designed shackles the same part # or no clue?

There are a few places that sell HEI for the AMC engines. There's no drop-in junk yard application; they take a GM housing and machine it to fit the AMC.

Jeep used the Prestolite electronic ignition system from '74 to '77.

You can also run the later Motorcraft electronic ignition that came stock after 1977. It can be upgraded with stock Ford parts to the TFI system (thin film integration).

    Try these links: http://www.zmjeeps.com/hei_8.php

The one's I have the part number 4007 I believe. They are widerthan stock one's so you just need to cut the center brace down to fit properly.

Front bumpstop pic.....any idea why the bumpstop is on the spring, besides maybe bad springs? Also, this b-stop is on the rear of the spring.....weird location i would think.

My guess is the spring are shot. Time to look into replacements.

    Yep, D44 diff.

As for that bumpstop... sure looks like your springs are tired; never saw one in that location.
Look on the frame directly above the axles for other bumpstops that look like rubber buttons. look into Rancho bumpstops, 1" or 2" longer than stock if you go with a new suspension lift.

The bumpstop looks stockish to me ... although I don't recall the specifics. That stop doesn't really "stop" - it changes the rate of the spring. The actual stop is the bumper on the frame rail. This type of stop may be a feature of the standard 5-leaf springs - it's been more than 25 years since I've looked at a 5-leaf setup closely, but to my vague memories it looks stockish.

Every old car with leaf springs that I've seen has had flat springs. It's just typical for them to fatigue as they age.

oh i'm sure she has dead springs.....the PO had a fullsize plow on it for gawd knows how long, plus wheeled it alot

the stock bumpstops are still there....but the ones at the rear of the springs had me scratching my head as i've never seen them before. Maybe they were used with the plow?

I've been thinking about shackles again....my neighbor is a machinist and said he could fab up some out of any thickness steel i wanted and even said they had stainless at the shop......any input on what thickness would be good? Anybody know off hand what the stock shackles measured center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole?

Those shackles from 4wd.com are either 4 or 4.25 center to center. That's not stock. I think stockers are like 3 inches center to center. They must be about 3/8 inch thick?? I wouldn't think they would be hard to fab if you have a shop to do so.

neighbor said they'd be really easy to make, just wanted to make sure i didn't make them too long.

3/8" is probably the thickness i'll have them made out of.....probably overkill, but better safe than sorry :)
