    O.K., Here's this week's Mystery Question-

Heres the clutches out of Tonka (right) & Maggie (the other right-, no- I mean Left!)

    And the Artsy shot-

    Tonka is nominally a '55, Maggie (w)a(s) a '59.

The FSM (the mid 60's reprint one) shows Tonk's clutch setup but not Maggies.

I was under the impression Tonka had an Auburn clutch but that's what Maggie's sez on it as well/

Anyone with any knowledge about when/why/if the change took place, or, is this a case of more transplanted components as appears to be the case with last week's post re. "Great Baffling Bellhousings" ?

    Thanks,

    H.

p.s.-For those of you having trouble identifying the engine blocks it's because they arn't V6s, they're "Willys" engines :). h.

You are in good company with those F heads -- the only other two manufacturers of F heads that I know of were Rolls Royce and Harley-Davidson.

Looks to me like the clutch covers are different diameters, but the flywheels are the same. A few months back we had a thread about F4 flywheels that were drilled for two different diameter covers/disks. I'd guess that's what you are seeing - that the smaller diameter cover (Tonka?) is the more modern stamped steel design, and the larger is an older, competitive design. I had thought that modern clutch covers came in two types: Borg-and-Beck, with discrete springs, and diaphragm, with a single big spring. All the B&B style that I've seen as replacements have had stamped frames - I'd presume that's the modern construction method.

And the other is 65' F Head with a T90.

Nope, both were hooked to a T90. Your second picture sorta looks like the unit shown in the FSM for the V6.

SOME f-134 flywheels were drilled for both clutches, and some weren't.

My experience has been that the older the flywheel, the more likely it is only drilled for the smaller clutch.
