OK experts, here is the deal. I'm coming to the point in my project where I'm doing all of the little things now (that take so much time) and I've come across a problem that I need your help on. It seems that my bolt on water outlet neck at the intake manifold, where the thermostat goes, hits my HEI distributor. Actually it comes really close, so close in fact I won't be able to put on a radiator hose.

Has anyone had this trouble? Does anyone know if another model or make outlet neck will bolt up?

If it came out at a more extreme angle it would work or if it came out straight I could plumb it under the distibutor.

    You expert advise is appreciated.

Pic Please - mine (on stock and Kenne Bell intakes) points up in front. No problem with the HEI.

I should have explained better about what manifold I'm using. I have both a Kenne Bell and Weiand.

Looks to me like you could just re clock the distributer, moving the vacuum advance away from the thermostat housing... Or is the cap itself too close, too? I had an HEI on mine, and there was room for the hose/ clamp.....

No, there is plenty of room outside of the fact that the vacume is in the way. How can I reclock it if it is timed correct in this location?

You'd pull the distributor and 'clock' the shaft one tooth counter-clockwise and then drop it back in. You'll need to 'clock' the oil pump shaft too, but once the distributor drops all the way back in, you just rotate the housing/cap assembly until it's timed correctly again.

If that doesn't work (although it should ;)), I've got a 10-o'clock t-stat housing for a 225 V6 that might remedy your sitch. It's the one in the pic:

Heck it will be easier just to change it out. How much do you need for it?

I'm ready to try anything. If it is not too much trouble the P/N would be helpful if I need to go that route.

It'd take just a few minutes to move the distributer.....

Nah. Put the crank at TDC on compression stroke, put the distributer where you want it, and line up the rotor to the #1 tower on the cap....

Very easy to reclock a distributer. Plenty of help here if you run into problems.

The only thing is that the vacuum advance is awfully close to the fan & stuff on the Dauntless. Clearance might become an issue. :?

Clearance on mine won't be an issue since I have an electric fan. I'll give the re clocking a shot since you guys are behind me.

Reclock is a piece of cake... I have to do mine about 4 times before I get the vac advance out of the way, and enough room to move the distro for timing so I can keep all 4 hold downs. My Kenne Bell manifold edge sits just between the hold downs @ 4 o'clock.

I have built 4 HEI's for folks and tested them all on this engine before sending them out.

For me - the hard part is getting that damn oil pump to line up so it slips down right
