73 Cj5 Tub Swap

    I found a great deal on a 76 and 83 CJ5 tubs. I have a 73 CJ in need of , well everything. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this swap will work. Are there going to be a lot of mods need. I also heard that a YJ tub will fit a CJ. Is this true, and what years will they fit.

    1. The '73 and '83 tubs won't interchange. We've lots of discussion on the differences from pre 76 to '76 and later in this forum.

    2. YJ tubs will swap with CJs but only CJ-7s.

    The main differences will be in the floor, the dash and the way the body mounts on the frame. There were lots of changes between 1975 and '76, but the '76 and '83 tubs should be interchangeable. If the tub(s) are really cheap, you can weld, and are willing to put some effort and money into the new tub, you could make it work. You may want to buy new pre-76 floors and hat channel for the later tub.
