guys, i think i have an early model back seat, but i am not sure . Weird request Does anyone have a picture of their back seat they could send me. I'd like to find a home for it, but hard to post it if i don't know what it is...exactly? it was int he back of a late model cj i got for parts, but its clearly not a late model seat. looks like its in good shape, the upolstery is really weatherd and dried out. but otherwise might make someone a decent seat.

These may not be much help; it would be better if I took the thing out and shot it. (Photographically speaking, of course!) If you're not in a big hurry, you might PM a reminder to me in a day or so, and I'll get a shot of it on the bench. I'd have to roll my 61 out in the weather to get the back of the 70 open to take thiis one out. Too many to-dos on the list today. Not that the 61 couldn't get wet, but I'd rather not have it dripping all over the floor when I put it back, you see.........

it has 4 brackets on the floor, to take it out it slides straight forward. A quick oin keeps it in place otherwise.

Since there are several pics from the "standard" seat in the CJ5/6's I thought I would post this. Here's a pic of the seat on in my MB. The one's for the CJ2A and CJ3A's were similar, except with legs.

If it is similar to this, I would be interested in it if you want to part with it.

Jeepfreak81's seat is from an intermediate Jeep, or Commando. Not sure what the year span is for that seat though, but it covers 72-75. Comfortable, for a back seat.

It's more like that one (tigershark). exposed steel frame. but it has a full back. the front legs have flat tabs that point forward. the rear legs have like a tappered cone shape theing on the end. does that ring any bells for anyone?

I'm gonna go check it out Wednesday, it might already have a new home. Dan works around the corner from me and lives about 10-15 minutes from my office.

OK, I bought this puppy tonight from jimmy hat (Dan), and for a great price too I might add (Thanks Dan!). It appears to definitely be a "second version" CJ2A seat, according to Howard's link to the CJ3B site. It looks like the one below, and it's in very good shape. The cushions need rebuilding of course, but the frame is in great condition, no rust-through anywhere. It DOES NOT have the floor brackets, however (the brackets that mount to the Jeep floor that the seat attaches to).

Now, I can keep it, rebuild it and use it, but if there's anybody reasonably close to Denver that needs/wants a CJ2A rear seat and has a mid/late-50's vintage CJ5 rear seat in comparable condition, I'd be happy to trade. Don't really want to ship the beast, and I'm not looking to sell it, but a trade would be cool.

What are you looking to trade? I need that style for the 3A I just bought? I have friends rolling through the Denver area this weekend on the way to Moab.

Like I said Jim, I'd trade for an early CJ5 rear seat in comparable shape, otherwise I'll keep this one and use it. The 3A seat is different than this one, this is for a 2A. The 3A seat has a 4 inch bottom cushion, I think shorter legs too and different latches on the rear legs? Check out that earlier link to the CJ3B site.

OK, get some shots of the feet too, willya? If it's a 5 seat, I want to see what the latches on the rear legs look like. I haven't taken any of my seat yet, but the frame is in great shape. The cushions are all intact, but definitely need recovering.

OK, here's some photos of this rear seat I bought from Dan. As I said, it's a 2nd generation CJ2A rear seat from what I can tell, and although it would be just fine for my '56, if someone really needs it for a restoration and has a correct '56 vintage CJ5 rear seat in just as good condition, I would trade. Preferably near Denver so we don't have to ship the monsters. Otherwise, I'm gonna restore it and use it.

This is the only photo I have of a '56 vintage seat. Note the latches on the rear legs, and the mounting plates on the bed of the Jeep on each side of the bed, next to the seat legs. Also note how the front foot faces the rear instead of the front. Also note how thick the bottom cushion is, and how it's attached to the frame with screws. This is the only type of seat I'll trade for.
