I have been prepping a T15 and DM20 to go back into the rig. I have cleaned the hardware in a parts washer and a pressure washer. I was told to replace the oil seals and not to worry about the rest of the transfer case.

Here's the rub, I am having trouble removing the nut and I only have standard type pullers. Any suggestions? The manual calls out specific tools, can I get by without them?

    Thanks

    Thanks,

How did you keep it from spinning? I tried a C-clamp and it seems to work. But it is braced against the housing and I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. Did you have to use heat to break the nut loose? I have a 1/2 inch breaker bar and it seems like it is going to snap?

I used a large pipe wrench to hold the yoke and when the nut was off a two legged gear puller. Came apart pretty easy after the nut was broken loose.

I bought a cheapo electric impact gun from Harbor Freight. It works well on stuff like this. I've actually had it for several years and it hasn't crapped out yet.

Ditto on the pie wrench idea, but I bought a large one cheap from a rummage sale, and then I ground the clamping teeth off flat, that way the teeth don't dig into the yoke and mess it all up!

If the transfer case is still attached to the transmission, you can put the transmission in two gears at once to keep it from spinning.
