    Ok I know that there have been alot of swaps to HEI for the 304's and looking at the site that supply kits what is involved machining wise to just get a donor form the boneyard and go that route?

    AFAIK there are no instructions available publically to adapt the HEI to the AMC V8. There are a few places that do it, but the process is proprietary. The 232/258 is another matter - that app drops right in with no machining, only a change of drive gear.

    You can get the complete Motorcraft system from a Grand Wagoneer and go that route without any machining. The Motorcraft aka Duraspark system is pretty much equivalent to the HEI when you use the upgraded TFI parts (coil, cap, wires, rotor). Lots on the net about the TFI upgrade for the Duraspark. The only downside is that the ECU and coil aren't integrated, so there''s more wiring.
