Buy it!!! The 3A was 1949 -1954 or so, it came after the CJ2A and before the CJ5. The 3B's were produced into the '60's, I believe. The CJ3A was the basis for the military M38 (NOT the M38A1). The CJ3B has the "high hood" configuration, whereas the 3A has the lower flat hood like the 2A and the WWII MB and Ford GPW did. The 3A would have the L-head 134 flathead motor like the 2A, MB, GPW, and M38's, where the 3B had the F-head 134 motor with the overhead intake valves, like the CJ5, CJ6, and M38A1.

So I'd say yeah, it's kinda rare and definitely worth buying for $500, especially if it runs. The tub is fixable, sheet metal parts are available for it.

Here is a LINK to a quick guide - 3A Low Hood - 3B High Hood. I believe the 3B is rarer, but it depends on the time of year and where your at :)

definitely buy it... then go and buy a rivet gun, some sheetmetal and some fiberglass. Pick a color spraypaint and stick to it. Flat black is always easy to match R)
seriously thats a great deal for a fun ride. You wont regret it... and yeah about the differences between em... google is your friend :)

Good price for a driveable 3A.

Bodies are easier to fix than you might imagine.

If it has the original windshield frame, and it's in good shape, that's worth at least half of the asking price.

Procrastination cost me a decent 1952 CJ3B recently. It was original except for tires, seat covers & some other bolt on junk. I was willing to go up to $1500, it sold for $1400. DOOOH

If the tub is trash, you can buy a reworked Phillipino tub, slap it on and have a vehicle that is still worth more than you would have in it.

By total production numbers, I believe there are less 3A's than 3B's.

Bigtuse - if you don't buy it, can you give me the info on it (i.e. location, contact person, phone number, etc.) I've been lookking for a flat fender for a long time. This one seems like it is exactly what I'm looking for and I see you are in PA, so I'm guessing the Jeep is in PA too.

    Thanks
