I've determined the only way I'm going to figure out exactly what's making the banging in my trans is to drop it and inspect / replace whatever is broke. Since it still moves in all gears, I'm hoping it's a throwout bearing or a broken finger on the clutch or something relatively easy / cheaper than a pooh pooh trans. Anyway, I have never done any work to a trans other than add fluid. Is there a good instruction manual (like clutch / trans work for dummies) available?

You can find a Factory Service Manual on ebay on the cheap I paid $16 for one about a month ago.

Yep, FSM is the best. Take pictures, make drawings, mark every part when you remove it. Then ask questions here.

Novak says they supply instructions with their rebuild kits, but I have not seen them.
