All the brake fitings I can think of are flare fittings, and you never want to use any kind of sealent at all on them. Are there any that aren't flare fittings?

As in Permatex 2B? Where were you thinking of putting it? On the seat or flare, it might get inside the works and that would be bad. On the threads it will have no effect on the leak.

The threads only serve to put pressure on the flare and seat - all you'll do is make the joint harder to remove. All the sealing is due to the high-pressure metal-to-metal contact between the seat and flare.

If the fittings leak, it's probably due to damage to the seat or flare, or becasue the nut had been bent by tightening with an open end wrench. Your only alternative is replacement.

X2. If you need to use sealant on a brake line, there are bigger issues at hand..

Yup, Permatex 2b. I've used it on other stuff with good results, just wondering if it is safe for brakes, too.

I bought these Wilwood residual pressure valves that aren't much more than an anodized aluminum cylinder with female threads on each end. Where I join it to the brake line will be a 3/16" brass nipple - not flared.

Use teflon tape on the threads. Works good and won't get into the brake system causing issues. I don't like any kind of semi liquid or liquid sealer on brake systems. Seen too many issues with it, compatibility with brake fluid, gumming up of passages, etc. Nickmil

    Roger. Thanks.

FYI for those using these Wilwood RPVs: I poked around NAPA for a while and found some SAE nipples that had a conical shaped end on each side that fits down snug into the valve.
