    Hi,
I'm planning to install a new clutch and cable in the cj this weekend. I just wanted to know if you had any tips/tricks/warnings about his job.

    Thanks,
    -Dante

That cable was a 1-year feature in '72. In '73 Jeep switched to the bellcrank becasue the cable was so troublesome. Warranty service for the cable was to replace it with a kit using the '73-on bellcrank.

In general, a cable clutch in a Jeep should be a good idea though. If you're replacing the cable because it's stiff, you might want to consider changing to a different configuration, or carrying a spare. Depending on your local conditions, the cable might last longer and work better if it were lubed. The original cables came with some kind of plastic lining the sheath that was supposed to slide against the steel cable, but either the cable would swell or fray or corrode or something and freeze in the sheath.

Slather the entire cable in wheel-bearing grease to prevent it from rusting. I went through only 1 cable in 18 years on my CJ5 in MI this way...

I'm replacing the cable because I'm a dumba$s and stripped the adjuster. Otherwise its working fine. I will definitely lube it up before she goes in though. thanks.
