Looks stock for a '72, though I don't remember where the highs/brake lights are on those speedos. Certainly the '72 had a black ring, and it was changed to chrome in '73. The style looks right for the intermediates too.

Saw the same one at a swap a month back and it was labeled for 72.

    Thanks, guys...

I just won this one off of E-bay for 50.00...NOS !!

It is so similar to my original 75 speedo, with the proper swing for the TEMP and FUEL. I will probably cannibalize this one for the FUEL gauge and reinstall my factory cluster on OLD YLR. Only problem is my original odometer. The mileage will need to be updated. Is this a procedure I can do myself, or is it something best left to a speedo shop........thanks ?

Also....when did the BRAKE light on the '72 illuminate; when the parking brake was on, when the fluid was low, or when the linings were worn (don't even know if they had that technology in '72 !!!) thanks..........

IIRC you can take the wheels out and set them to whatever you want. There's a wire clip that holds them in. Too easy...

Pretty sure there was a master cylinder pressure switch, so the light came on when there was a pressure difference between the halves of the dual master cylinder. There's a '72 manual at www.c104.net - the wiring diagram should show the pressure switch and its wiring (if I'm right).
