Original Parts For 76-83 CJ5's?

I am in the middle of restoring my 79 CJ5. I want to make it as correct as possible but have found it hard to locate original parts. For instance, all the pictures I see of 79 Jeep CJs show retro, low-back, pleated vinyl seats. Where can you find these? Nothing I've ever seen in the aftermarket even looks close to these originals. Also, I'm trying to locate an AMC Jeep horn button. Can't find that either. What about 76-83 CJ5 hardtops? Did they ever make these? These and other OEM parts seem to be non-existant. The current aftermarket CJ parts seem to be very different from pictures of original equipment. If anyone knows of a resource for original Jeep CJ parts, besides an old parts-Jeep, I would really appreciate the tip. Thanks!

 

If anything, the 76-83 is the easiest CJ-5 to find parts for. Lots of them were built.

Re the seats, you'll probably have to find original seats and have them reupholstered. Low-back aftermarket seats are available, but they don't look exactly like the originals.

For other parts, the source that seems to always have stuff is J&W Jeep Parts in Antelope, CA. Another good source is Scotty's in Fontana, CA. If you want NOS, you'll just have to look around - make your list and snoop around in the old posts of Jeep forums for ideas. I know that Z&M Jeeps bought a whole bunch of NOS stuff last year, and this thread http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45332 suggests a place in Illinois. Make your list and start searching.
