    Ok, here it goes...

When I replugged the new ignition box on my CJ, I tought I was plugged on the good wire....read on

Last night, my father came along to investigate. Test this, test that, remove this wire, etc. no fire..then , his head deep in the hood, he asks me: ``Where does that wire with a ``U`` written on it plugs ???``

Then it struck me.:smash::smash:when I did my engine swap, I marked all wire. When I replugged the box, I found funny that the single wire plugged into the middle hole of a three hole plug. it was marked ``U``

When I replugged the box two days ago, I accidently plugged it in an abandonned female wire that passed nearby. There was no fire... So when my dad told me about the ``U`` plug, it all came back.

We replugged it in the good hole, and it started on the first turn...

CJ owner, beware of all connection when you unplugged thing, mark everything, however obvious it seems...

p.s. is the word ``Plug`` and ``plugged`` written ok ? I have difficulty with this one this morning I think.....

Looks right to me. Glad everything worked out in the end. I'm sure we've all been in that position. I know I have.

    Great news Bob!! :coffee:

As for "plug and plugged"... I think we all understand what you are saying... there's enough regional variation in American English that you may get a number of different responses from our members as to what is right and wrong... :D
I think you do a great job with your English!! :) :coffee:

Personally I always use "enplug" and "deplug" to avoid confusion.

    Oh yeah,

When I did my HEI conversion, it took me a while to figure out which wire was the one I should use. At one point I couldn't get the Jeep to shut off so I had to suffocate it.

Glad to hear you figured it out.

i have a few books of numbered sticky-tags. they are sheets of perforated nylon material printed in strips on the sheet. simply peel a strip (abot 1" long) of the number you want and wrap it around the wire back on itself. like a flag of sorts. use another of the same number on the corresponding plug/wire and make good notes in a note pad. i have had them in my tool box for 10 years and finnaly found a good use for them. i "borrowed" the books from the electrician's shop back when i was in the service so i really dont know how hard they would be to find in the civilian world. a real life saver when doing long-term extensive projects.

Great to hear Bob, it happens to all of us at some point. No harm done, and your timing gear is replaced.
