Do any cats out there know if it is possible to change out a clutch from below? I have 71 CJ-5 renegade II. I got the interior lined and now feel a little slip in the clutch. I can pull my covers with a little hard careful work but would sure prefer not to! Help! thanks much

It's kind of hard to replace a clutch without removing the floor plates. I'm not sure if it is possible.:?

Hmm. In '75, Jeep started spot welding the floor panels into the body (at least my, 1st '75 was like that, and the ones I looked at in the dealer's shop. Another example arrives tomorrow - woohoo!).

To me, that implies that the removable floor panels aren't essential to normal maintenance. Maybe there's something about the earlier Jeeps (other than the master cylinder) that you can't get at with the floors in place?

I'd expect you can do it if you're willing to be something of a contortionist. I'd try to yank the engine with the bell in place - you might even pull the whole assembly (engine, trans, tc) and do the whole job on the shop floor.

I think you can probably do it, if you can get the shift tower off from underneath/through the hole left by the shifter boot.

    I would pull the motor.

it;s possible, i did a sm420 swap in my driveway by myself with just a floor jack and didn't pull any floor pans because i didn't want to cut my rino lining. if you pull your t/c then your trans it should be no problem, a t14 is a lightweight compared to a 420.
