Hello all. I am still working on my resto mod project. I will post soon in the build section to show progress. I am currently working on the custom dash. I designed and installed around all new VDO Cockpit Royale gauges. I did not however plan on having to replace all the sending units. I am not too worried about replacing the Temp sensor (fairly cheap) and Oil Pressure sensor (now need electronis instead of little tube of oil going to the gauge). But, I had already purchased a new OEM Fuel Level sender. The VDO gauges are 10-180 Ohms. Does anyone know the original Ohms? Will the OEM unit work? Or do I need to buy a new sender. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mike. I am a little ignorant to the range. I read the information, and it seems the OEm sender is within the VDO range. But The VDO range is significantly wider. Does this matter? must it be exact?

IMHO you need a different fuel gauge that will work with the Jeep sending unit, or just learn what the gauge really means....

When the sender says full and is sending 10 ohms you'll have a gauge that says full.

But when the tank is empty and the sending unit is saying 73 ohms the gauge will say somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 tank.

The resistance range is inverted compared to most vehicles, so your gauge will read backwards and only about half scale.

IIRC there are only two standard ohm ranges, and most lines have gauges that are compatible with each. Jeep uses the S-W or Ford standard? Something like that. Look on the S-W home page ... pretty sure they describe both "standard" ranges there.

There are actually 4 or 5 common ranges, Ford and Jeep just happen to share one. Ford uses two different ranges, GM has one, Chrysler has one, there are others. IIRC Autometer shows 5 different fuel gauges and they don't cover all applications. Jeep and early Ford are the only ones with an inverted resistance range (high to low.)
