I've come across references to some unusual 6 Cylinder F-heads that Willys produced. Can anyone shed some light on these?

Only in the "Henry J" passenger cars AFAIK. I have some more info somewhere which I will dig out.

Pretty rare I'd think - suitable for a car restoration, but not for a Jeep.

I believe they were in the early JEEPs, but obviously not the CJ. At least that's the info in my Willys America catalog.

Got a call from a buddy of mine the other day. He picked up an early Willys wagon with a 6 cyl. f-head in it. He hadn't seen one before, I'll get some pics of it when I stop by next time. Be a first for me too.

I'm curious as to whether the station wagon is 2 wd. My Willys America catalog indicates they were available '52 to 55 in 2 wd station wagons and variants of them only.

It is a 2wd. Has a Borg Warner OD too. I got a few pics, looks like a stretched f-head I'll post them up when I get a chance.

I bought a '60 wagon at auction this past summer and it has the 226 Super Hurricane flathead six in it. It is 4x4. Also had a 56 ( ? ) willys truck I was given and it too had the flathead six in it. Nothing on the truck was worth saving really so I gave it to another guy after grabbing some small parts off it.
The radiators in these vehicles seem more heavy duty than in our cj's and I wonder if one would fit. I'll have to look into it. Hose hook ups, etc. Would an old rad from a flathead put up with an odd fire 231 that tends to run hot anyway?

Yeah, the Super Hurricane was a flathead engine and an alltogether different beast than what this thread is about though. :)

It's not an uncommon engine. But you won't find it in the CJ from the factory.

Didn't the jeep 101 made in brazil come with the 90 hp 161 f-head? So it should fit in a cj, haven't seen a picture in the engine bay though.
Jeepster also used this engine, right?

I did not realize they made a 6 cylinder version of the F head...COOL! Our '64 Wagon was a Super Huricane flathead 6(I kept the engine) and it was 4x4,last year of the l head six I believe. '64 was a good year, I was built in '64!

'64 Wagon was a Tornado OHC originally. But it's likely it was swapped out due to reliability issues. Last year for the L-head 6 was '61 IIRC.
