First of all hello fellas. Looks like you have a great forum going here. This is my first post here so let me fill you in on what I'm up to. I've recently decided to buy a jeep for the deer lease and hunting hogs in the Spring. I wasn't looking for a custom restore project, but rather a good clean jeep for use of what they are intended to do. I found what I wanted sitting in the barn of a sweet little old lady and I'm going to pick it up weekend after next. Here are some pics.

I'm going over this weekend to block the ole jeep up and pull the wheels off to take to the tire shop and put some tires on. It seems after further conversation with the little lady that owned it, it may have been sitting more like 10 years, but at least it was under cover of the barn. The tires are dry rotted, so I figure with this weekend of everything going on with the Texas Youth Hunts and limited time, I could at least get the wheels off and go around the thing with a can of WD-40 in preparation for the following weekend where we'll hoist it onto the trailer and bring her home.

I'm sure hoping to have it running shortly after that without to much work, but I haven't had the chance to check the motor out or really anything to much other than having a good body and no rust. I won't be surprised for the worst, but I'm hoping for the best. She told me that it was running fine when they parked it there.

Here's my list of what I plan to do right off the bat in the attempt to get her running and in and out of the deer lease this year.

    New tires
    New battery
Drain the fuel and add a inline filter to try and catch any sediment that I expect to be in a 10 year old tank of gas.
New belts and Hoses with fresh anti freeze and water mix
Oil and filter change on the motor.
    Spark plugs
Spray the heck out of the carb with some berryman's b-12
Check for bad rubber on fuel lines and vacume hoses replace as needed.
Drian the gearbox, transfer and diffs and replace. I'll look around for the oil to replace with.
    Should I replace the points?

If you guys have any more suggestions I'd sure appreciate it. I actually feel like a kid waiting on Christmas with this little project about to start, but at the same time, I've got so much to do I'm hoping to get a game plan to try and cover most of this in one weekend. Maybe...

That is a sweet find. Good luck.

Wash it and take some more pics. That appears to be in great shape.

    Welcome from Alabama.

Welcome to the stored in a barn for several years 74 CJ6 club!
Its just you and me that I know of! R)

Looks like a good find!! I would add to your list a complete brake system overhaul with shoes, wheel cyl, master cyl, and any rubber hoses. Mine were dry rotted bad from setting for 20 yrs.
I would do a complete tune up including the points and condenser and check the PCV system and vacuum hoses.
Oh and best thing I did was purchase a 1974 FSM.

    WOW!

My advice.... Fix it.....Paint it..... Sell it.

Then go buy hunting jeeps for yourself and two other buddies!

Oh my. She's a beauty, no question.

I'd buy that one in a heartbeat, even though I already have a '75.

Fairway Green .... mmMMmm. Great color. 6? V8? What's the VIN? Those 60/40 bench seats weren't very common.

Buff it out, remove those goofy bumpers, and drive it.

Welcome from Texas- My '5 also sat for 12 years. Agree about brakes. My engine rings had seized during its nap- not enough Marvel Mystery oil in the world to unseize them, but maybe a week of soaking might rescue yours.

    Its not fair!
I would never find something like this in PA.
Things here tend to rust alittle.

When you go to remove the tires pull the plugs and dump some atf into the cylinders to start freeing stuff up. Just file and readjust the points for now to see if it runs. May have a valve or two stuck after sitting that long. Good luck, and welcome form another 74 cj6 owner.

Great find. Way to much potential to turn into a hunting only jeep and beat it up in the woods.

You could wash it, get it running, do a little work and sell it for a nice bit of change. Then by an old beater cj for a hunting jeep. Or better yet, an old 'Yoda 4wd pickup. Beat the poo out of that..............

Fairway Green Poly, the best Jeep color of all time IMHO! Love the Hatari!-type seats on the front too, now go out and lasso a rhino with that baby.

Thanks for the welcome fellas. I appreciate the opinions and suggestions on the subject. I feel pretty confident I'm heading in the right direction and will be re-adjusting my to do list.

Now just because I'm going to be hauling deer and hogs out of the woods with this thing doesn't mean I plan on beating the heck out of it. lol. I just got rid of a 1990 toyota 4x4 that could go anywhere, but I blew the head gasket and and it was just to small to fit me and my two little hunting buddies. I've got two girls ages 10 and 12 that love to tag along with dad when it comes to hunting. Anyway, I don't even have it home yet and I'm already proud of it.

We'll take care of it and plan on treading light with it. No Hatari scenes going on down here. I'm not sure of how just how far we'll go with the restoration, but I've had the "wants" of an old jeep for sometime now. Plus I soon have a couple of little girls that know how to drive a stick.

I'll for sure take pics and keep you guys updated considering I'm probably going to need your help often.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome and I'm glad that I'm about to be in the CJ-6 family.
