So tonight I somehow broke the stud on the bottom driver's side shock mount. Does anyone know where to get one of these for a '74 CJ5 with a Dana 30? All I can find is for '76 and up. Anyone know if one listed for a '76 and up D30 will work?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    P.S. RUST SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This company sells a shock pin for their skid plate : http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/SkidPlates.htm
I had one break off on me and just used a grade 8 bolt with the head cut off and a flat washer tack welded to it. the pin is welded to the spring plate, or you can get a new spring plate with the shock pin already on it. Good luck.

I think this has been covered before, but I don't remember the details. The '71 and earlier has the pin on the opposite side of the axle (?) so I think you can use a left on the right and vice-versa. You'll need to redrill the bolt holes, since there's that one U-bolt that goes around the housing on the right side. From '76 on, the springs are wider, so the U-bolt spacing will be different.

Using a bolt to repair it is probably an easier/better route. If you prep the plate and the bolt, a pro welder can fix it for you in a few minutes.

I had this happen to me before as well,,darn thing just broke right off. I straightened it out on an anvil, ran a thread die down it to fix the threads and welded it back on. A few months later,,same thing,,so I repeated the process. Then again,,, this time I inspected closer and found that the shaft of the shock had actually bent, not allowing the shock to travel fully and over-stressing the mount once it "bottomed-out" early..
So,,,whats the moral of the story you ask,,,, when somthing breaks, especially often,,,check for the reason as well as just doing the repair and going on.

I think I saw what you need in the 4WD Hardware catalog.
