I recently purchased a 1975 CJ5. The Jeep has a 304 V8 and 3 speed trans. What puzzles me is that it has drum brakes with a power booster. Were power drum brakes ever offered or is this something a previous owner added? Also, according to the factory service manual the Jeep should have electronic ignition but mine has a points distributor?? It does have a catalytic converter, dash mounted ignition switch and firewall wiring block. Could this Jeep be some kind of 74/75 model?? Look forward to replies.

Power drum brakes were a factory option for CJs, starting in 1972.

1975 would have had the Prestolite electronic ignition. POs do lots of things though ... the Prestolite system is troublesome, and could have been removed.

    If the VIN starts with J5, it's a '75.

"catalytic converter, dash mounted ignition switch and firewall wiring block" - all consistent with a '75 model.
